No, FuzzyButt’s my little boy.  He does talk and makes VERY interesting sound effects too, but yes, he demands attention and a lot of it.  He thinks it’s neat to pick up the telephone receiver up there too when I’ve had to lay it down and run downstairs and then talks to us and whoever else is talking on the line.  I try to keep the telephone covered up!

Is he molting?

No.  FuzzyButt was given to me as a ‘bird in trouble’, he was a self-mutilator and much of the damage that had occurred over a long period of time is now irreparable.  Africa Grays are number one on the list of birds VERY susceptable to this behavior.  When I first received him, there were NO feathers at all on him to speak of except those on his head where he could not reach.

He has come a very long way, and can even sort of fly now though it’s mostly short hovers.  He has had extensive testing and examinations though and even takes prescribed supplements to help feathering.  So many of the feather folicles have been damaged, however, that he will never be fully ‘clothed’.

I think he’s awesomely beautiful just the way he is, but he does require special care and attention.  The ONLY time FuzzyButt is confined to a cage is when he goes for a walk with me in his stroller and then he rides in a Pak-O-Bird backpack (I attach this to his stroller.

I can’t believe how much his feathers have grown back! He was buck naked when you got him.

He really was naked!  No tail feathers and he’d try to fly off a ramp and had no wing feathers and would plummet to the carpet.  I had to gather big pilles from everywhere and put them under all his perch area to prevent him from getting hurt.

When I first saw his tail feathers coming in all I saw was little red spots and thought he was bleeding.  After awhile they looked like someone had shot little red darts into his rear end.  He shivered all the time so I had to make him thick polar fleece PluckPonchos just to keep him warm.

He really has come a long way!
