I heard a rumour he is doing a version of Alice in Wonderland as well, which has me dancing for joy.

I HATE that book.

Butchered Willy Wonka and my opinion of the Burton/ Depp team went downhill after that.

I agree whole heartedly!  Card board cut-out performances, lousy chemistry, yuck.  Even though it didn’t follow the book all that closely, i though Gene Wilder did a much finer job portraying Willy Wonka.  why is it when a movie has already been done really well, a studio always feels that they can “do it better”!?  Urrrgh.

I don’t think Dahl’s vision had Wonka dancing about like a drugged-up paedophile. It was more like Carlie and Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch.

And what the f*** is the deal with the oompa-loompas all being the same guy canging in size and proportion every scene? Did they blow all the budget and not have enough to pay midgets?

I think they just wanted to be more “technologically advanced” or something like that.  And yeah, this version of Willy Wonka was pretty creepy.  Yes, it followed the book more closely, but the original movie was SO much better!

I always thought the original was a little slow & didn’t really go out of my way to see it.  But I do own a copy of the newer version.

I have to say I really loved this movie.

I’m a big fan of Tim Burton’s movies, and of Johnny Depp.  I loved the way Johnny portrayed Sweeney.

Johnny Depp turned out to be a pretty good singer.
Helena Bonham Carter… not so much… But she looked great!

I love Johnny Depp! He is a great actor and singer as well. However, I haven’t watched this movie yet. I was quite busy when the movie came out so I didn’t have the time to go to the cinemas. :(
