I did sit through a sells pitch for a timeshare once, and my wife was actually pressuring me to buy at the end of it.  I don’t think so, that free prime rib dinner was very good though.

I’ve been doorstepped or otherwise subject to high-pressure sales pitches enough times to know that “no” is not in most of their vocabularies. Even when I’ve patiently explained to them for a fourth time that I do not buy anything at the door, they’ll carry on as though I only need to understand how great the opportunity to buy their overpriced book of ‘discount vouchers’ is and I’ll relent.

I have actually bought the Entertainment book before, though never from someone door-to-door.  The fondue coupon alone pays for the book.

The funniest one is when a doorstep seller tried to get me to change to their phone service when at the time I was working for the international telecom company who sold them their service in the first place (and had a staff discount call plan to boot).

Not only did the salesrep refuse to believe I already had a better deal than he could offer, he had never heard of my company, despite the fact that he was reselling it’s service under a different name.

Wow - I guess you’ve all been through this. The guy just called me back and seemed outraged that I wasn’t coming to his presentation which I found out would take 90 minutes, was not allowed to bring my children to and must have my husband attend. He couldn’t believe I didn’t want to be a part of winning a cadillac! Then he tried to sell me 2 cases of his magic health water that was going to be the best thing ever. I told him he should go cure all the cancer patients and then he would get so much press, he wouldn’t have to sell water to strangers over the phone.

I’ve been reading this thread and I’m wondering if somebody can clear up some basics.

First of all: What are the “tests”? I’m reading stuff like ‘I was demoed and it works”. This could mean anything from curing thirst to pouring it on pimples and watching them disappear before your eyes.

Ok, let’s say it works (keep in mind I’m writing this not knowing what “works” really means in this case). How does it make you a better person? Does if offer some long term benefit that diet and exercise don’t? Does it do something amazing like clear up your arteries and give you 20/20 vision or something lame like make your hair grow faster.

I mean that would be a cool trick if it could grow hair before your eyes, but it wouldn’t be useful for me. If the “test” doesn’t prove something that will make a major difference in my life then I’ll stick to Mountain Valley Spring Water . I don’t have a financial interest in the company, but the stuff sure tastes good. I highly recommend it on those occasions when nothing but bottled water will do.

If you read the original thread on this topic you will find the link to the Perfect Water site in the first post.  I won’t bother linking it here.  Somewhere (I think the FAQ, because the “Here’s Proof” has no content in it) they explain the two tests.  One is the Tip Test.  I forget what the other one is off the top of my head and don’t care enough to go searching more for it.

If you’re interested, here’s a YouTube video of the tip test.  I’m sure there are similar other videos in the Related Videos link there.  (Edit: Just watched the video and they actually go through the two tests and do a third “jumping” test.)

Who knows?  I plan on sticking with the filtered tap water out of my fridge.

Here is something dealing with the honesty/dishonesty of it all.  I like that.
