I guess it’s in the eye of the beholder, but I am OFTEN surprised by what appears sexy to me….including smells (or fragrances?) like:
A guy in a loosefitting but worn out shirt and jeans that ride well in the back but loose in the legs…..
Or guys sweating with tool belts clanging on their hips and workboots.

I just read this book called “Why Sex is Fun.“ It’s actually about the author’s theories on how we evolutionarily developed different aspects of our sexual biology. Anyway, the author’s theory on why most women find “working men” (i.e. well developed muscles, tools, sweat, etc) sexy is that our primitive ancestor women wanted men who were hunters and hard workers. In other words, they needed to be able to do the muscly (not really a word, but it works) jobs that the women didn’t have as much time to do in between caring for all the children and everything. Clean cut men in suits and nicely washed and cut hair don’t really fit that desciption.
Maybe that’s why Johnny Depp can still be sexy in Pirates even when he’s got a serious hiegene problem.

Meh, as you’re all probably aware by now, I don’t really go for the muscley type guys preferring them tall and skinny. But what I find really sexy are necks and wrists. No idea why (vampire theories aside), but I have to show a lot of self control if a guy with a nice neck walks by. Oh, plus I love it when a guy has nice forearms. You know, when their veins and tendons are nicely defined…

Humbug. Instead of invoking gender-specific roles that are culturally determined and make totally unfounded assumptions about gender roles in prehistory, I think its more in the line of a well-build body signaling genetic fitness.
There are many small things that play a role, e.g. studies show that in general people with symmetric faces and bodies are rated more attractive. Again, bodily symmetry is a sign of genetic fitness. We are hard-wired to detect such signs, like many animals, because it increases the chances our species will survive, it keeps the gene-pool healthy.

I’d agree with Lama there, is all down to genetic fitness and the appearance that the offspring of a “Fitter” looking male will also be “Fit”. This is highlighted by Birds, especially those who use display plumage. Males with more extravegant and colourful plumage are deemed fitter as it would take more energy to maintain such a fine set of feathers.
Personally I’ve got a thing about brunettes and glasses wearers. Oh and like Nettie, I love a girl with a beautiful neck.
Dark eyes, darker skin, yum.
Longer hair, tho not a requirement.
