If you haven't noticed lately, HollyWood is doing alot of remakes of past movies and T.V. shows that have proven their worth years ago cause they say "Thats what the public wants." when in all actuality, their scared to take a damned chance. There are probably alot of hit movie scripts out there that never see the light of day, which sucks. What is going on with the film industry????

What's wrong with the movie business is what is wrong with most of show business in general: the companies are run by accountants, not show biz people.

They don't have the balls to take a chance on something; they like to spend their money on what they perceive as a "sure thing." The thinking is that a popular TV show has been "pre-tested," therefore it HAS to work as a movie. Of course, the fallacy in that is that the script, the actors and a hundred other factors can turn that "sure thing" into a bloated, huge-budgeted piece of crap. They keep going down that same road long after it's been shown that these things are anything BUT a "sure thing."

I totally agree.
Also, there is a big competition from DVDs,exposing the whole Universe of World Cinema.
There are just too many great movies from the past.
Hollywood just can't compete with all those great movies.

Speaking of DVD's, I'd say that Hollywood has kind of screwed up with them, business-wise.

Think about it: A family of four going to the movies can spend about $50. for a movie and snacks. The same family, if it can wait a few months, can buy the DVD of that movie for about $15.-$20. and watch it in the comfort of their own home, eating their own microwave popcorn and not have to drive to the mall and put up with people talking all through the movie. AND they can watch it as many times as they want, for no additional cost.

I'd say damn few movies these days are SO compelling that the average person feels he just can't wait until it comes out on home video. Given that, Hollywood has put itself in a weird bind where their DVD product is more appealling (and cheaper) than what it releases to the theaters. They're competing with their own superior product at this point.

I remember the times, when we had an XXX movie theaters. And then they dissapeered .The reason was the VCRs.
DVDs will do the same to Hollywood flicks.
I don't think it will put them out of buisness, but movie theaters
soon will be history.

Congratulations, MovieLover! You have used the same argument people made in the 50s, saying that TV would kill theaters. How will DVDs end theaters?

no more theaters!!! god i hope not... something amazin about seeing a movie in a theater, its all epic, although i dont go much because of the price, and the fact that most cinemas show poop. still they say that with the equipment you can buy the guys in the street can make their own movies as good as hollywood soon... all that means is that there will be alot of matrix/star wars/lord of the rings movies....

may todd have mercy on us all

I don't see an end to theaters....There is a nice feeling you get when you go to one. A ok place to take a date or go with friends. Also you feel as if the outside world doesn't exist, you escape for a couple of hours.
