Hello -- I just saw a mention that the Throbbing Gristle song "Subhuman" is played as torture to the captives at Guantanemo Bay. I did a google search and found another mention of it, but nothing that substantiates it. Anyone else heard about this?

PS -- Oh, I forgot, it isn't called torture, is it, probably something like "information extraction". The same way that the physicians there don't have to worry about the medical code of ethics, since they aren't there as doctors, but as behaviorial scientists.

I have never posted here but I had to when i saw "throbbing gristle". I was a huge fan of Genesis P-Orridge and his projects, notably Psychic TV.
Why would someone play "subhuman" as torture?

Does anyone who has never been involved with an underground scene even know who Genesis P-Orridge is? My favorite song is either "thee wolf pack" or "just like arcadia". Now I have to dig out my old cd's.

P.S. I am not goth but I have always liked underground music cultures.

Mind you use of the 'Spice Girls' is specifically ruled out by the Geneva Convention, so these wishy-washy half measures are all the US can apply!

Sheesh! Even I can do better than that. Want to psyche information out of them by annoying them with music - Let 'em listen to 20 straight hours of Barry Manilow at 80db. Can't these guys be more inventive?

I've got to agree with "stork...." on that one. Sure, anything at an adequate volume will be torture, but doesn't Metallica seem a bit too obvious? I guess Marilyn Manson would be even more trite. But how about a 10 second loop of a baby crying, or maybe the Israeli national anthem? Wait -- here's my chance to combine two threads -- why not PRUSSIAN BLUE?!?!

Oh, btw, thanks emmerdeur for making me feel even older the day before my birthday. C'mon, "dig out my old CDs"? To some of us, NO CDs are old!! Okay, just giving you grief on that, but it did catch my eye, and make me feel ancient.

"David Hasselhoff sings the hits of John Tesh"

Can't think of anything scarier...

Throbbing Gristle at Gitmo? I'm sure it's better than whatever crap they were listening to in Afghanistan.
