I read this and thought to myself "I am really a good son".
This guy tried to blow up his mothes house with her in it because she refused to give him money for cigarettes. He took her outa the wheel chair so she couldn't reach the phone, then blew out pilot lights on stove and lit a candle and left. Talk about a Nic Fit.

Just read that on CTV.ca. That man is a serious nut case and is a prime candidate for forced checimal neutering. Let people like him live, in jail, but we should not let them breed as we are not entirely sure behavior is genetic. Better safe than sorry for now.

If chemical castration is used in America--which I doubt--I'm sure it's used for preventative, and not eugenic, purposes.
Stephen, is chemical castration done in your state? I've never heard of it being done in California.

It is surgical castration. Chary seems to know exactly how the process works rolleyes
He might be the best one to ask since he lives here in Texas as well.

Isn't that like shooting chemicals in the scrotum, and then it turns black & falls off? I dunno...I'm just guessing, based on actual castration I've been of animals.

chemical castration isn't like it falls off... it just makes it impossible to use for anything but urination.

Doesn't it cut off one of the glands, thus ending sexual desire?
Sounds pretty cruel, but at the same time, once it's done you don't get the urge anymore, so in a way it's almost a blessing.

I meant send into dormancy, not cut off.

This is just another glaring reason to bring back corporal punishment in the raising of children...

*sits back and waits for the backlash to ensue*

unfortunately chemical castration doesn't always work on sex offenders - because the urge for sex itself isn't always part of the nature of what a sex abuser does. but, if it were to be used as a method to keep people from having more kids, it might work.

not that that would be allowed to pass through any laws.

Do you really think that pedophilia is genetic? If so, then I must have a tendency towards it.

I think Winona might have been going more along the lines of....if the offender can't have children, he also can't screw them up royally.

I think sterilization/castration should be mandatory for sexually based offenses, simply b/c the offender has used a normal body function to manipulate or abuse someone...their normal body function should get abused & damaged too!

There's still no proof that bad adults create bad children. Though, if the child grows up with a 'bad' person, then they are more likely to continue the same bad habits are their parents. (Excessive drug & alcohol use, theft, vandalism.)

Although...there is proof that there is an "addict" gene. If you parents or grandparents were addicted to something, there's always the possiblity you'll have addictions too...but people can really be addicted to anything now-a-days. So even if your father was a raging alcoholic, your own addiction might be drugs, exercise, or work.
