That one about the Mercedes is a bit confusing. Are they saying that the man stole the tin of fish, was caught, and then the police did some checking and discovered that he couldn't have afforded the car? It sounds almost like they're saying that the Mercedes was in the tin of salmon, which would imply either a very large tin, or else a considerable feat of engineering. |

Maybe they figured that since he can't afford a tin of salmon he can't afford the car either. (Sort of like a spite thing.) |

I'm assuming they seized it because they may have suspected him of illegal activities such as drug dealing, since he had no means of support otherwise. |
