Cat Hunting

in spite of public outcry

Don't go crazy over this story, but it looks like Wisconsin is considering legalizing cat-hunting. I presume people being bothered by cats coming onto their property is the driving factor. The article doesn't state if any special rules would be enacted to regulate cat hunting, or if it would be done just like the hunting of any other wildlife.
Proposing a bill like this just seems like asking for trouble. Yes, cats kill lots of local wildlife, but addressing the issue in this manner will just make pet owners paranoid and cat-hunters ostracized.
Maybe it's just a purposeful distraction bill, like when Bush tried to apply health insurance to pets.

(n.b.: Yahoo! is a cruddy news source. When San Diego was host to the Painted Lady migrations, Yahoo! News identified them as monarch butterflies. There may be important elements of the story left out.)

Random Guy, your avatar is a pretty big file. 700kb that has to load every time someone opens the page. Is that okay? Because it has the potential to max out someone's bandwidth pretty quickly (not mine... whoever is hosting the file).

Should be, i can always check. It seems alot of people on this one game forum have big avatar files and use the same hosting server.

Alex, you could create a standard for avs. Like...N x N pixels only. My friend did that on his page, and a few people got pissed, but then changed their avs...and no one complained after. Anyone new just played by the rules or had their avs removed by site administrator.

It's not causing a problem here. But people don't like it if you hotlink images from their server without their permission, especially big image files. It's considered stealing their bandwidth. Just make sure that whoever is hosting this image is okay with it being used like this.

People often ask me: "Hairy, will you show us your avatar?". No. "Don't you HAVE an avatar?" Yes. "Then why can't we see it?" Hmmm. Noneya.

I've started to think of people in terms of their avatars. They're as representative as faces, if somewhat more open to misrepresentation - for example, I may be large, but I'm not stellar sized ,well, maybe some parts smile

Since Hairy won't share his avatar I've just sorta created one in my mind for him. Something akin to Marty Ingels on a bad hair day, but hey, it got him Shirley Jones. (Marty, not Hairy - unless there's a side to Hairy we haven't seen yet)
LOL

I'm fatter than my avatar, brown-green eyes instead of blue, and the hair was right till a week or two ago.

I think we've seen enough of Hairy's sides.
