I've been sifting through articles trying to find some existance but no luck here it is:
A woman in Phoenix, Arizona came home one day to find her dog, a
large Doberman pinscher, lying on the floor choking. She rushed the
dog to the vet for examination and was told to go home, that she
would be called later to pick the dog up. While she was home, she
got a call from the vet. "Get out of the house now!!" the vet said
frantically. The woman hesitated, to which the vet responded, "Just
call the police and get out of the house. I'll explain as soon as
possible." So she called and ran out of the house to wait for the
police. Shortly after, the police arrived with the vet. "We found
two human fingers in your dog's throat, ma'am," the vet said. "We
think there might be someone in your house." So the police searched
the house and sure enough, they found a man lying the closet,
unconscious. He was missing two of his fingers.
This story was printed in an Arizona newspaper, but there is no
proof to back it up. Furthermore, there is more than one version.
In one version, the dog bites off three fingers instead of two, and
the dog is a boxer, not a Doberman. Also, in one version, the man
is unconscious from loss of blood; in another, he's been killed by
the dog with his throat torn open
Looking for some answers to know if this story is true
the real question is, why would a dog think to bite someone's fingers off? if they were already dead or unconscious they wouldnt be particularly appetising, and if they were conscious, how did the dog get them in the cupboard?
i think a good rule of thumb is to treat any story which includes "Just call the police and get out of the house. I'll explain as soon as
possible." should be slapped with UL sticker asap.

I guess, maybe the guy hid from the dog, but if he was unconcious that would make no sense what so ever
I'd sell the house, keep the dog, and give the cops the finger

Oh...its an urban legend all right.
Check out the books of Jan Harold Brunvand.
They include "the choking doberman","The mexican pet ","the vanishing hitchiker" and "The baby train" and are reqireed reading for anyone interested in urban legends.
As for a doberman choking on a finger (Wendy's, anyone?), I have seen the doberman of a guy I used to work with scarf down hot-dogs whole, without chewing.
That would have to be a pretty damned fat finger to choke one of those mean machines.
