I know I've read that a French term for the English is "le rosbif", which indeed means "roast beef." Not a bit sure how prevalent that is, however.
And I'd be careful with the cutesy nicknames for people of different nationalities--I sometimes get a sense that people who use the term "Yank" aren't always doing it out of fondness, and I know that in certain circles, the use of "Pom", "Limey", and "Frog" is considered to be fightin' words.... |
