Yeah, Cappy Al, I remembered that from another thread that you mentioned it on... probably the car in the snow thingy.
And yes, picking people's butt in groups is great fun. At least on the Internet.
Stephen, the word is nickEL. For as picky as I am about people's spelling, I really don't understand how my head has not exploded from reading people's ramblings all over the internet. I've refrained from pointing this out most of the time, but for some reason this one (nickel) just BUGS THE SHIT out of me. (oh yeah, I remember, it's from grade six science when the teacher and I got into an argument about how it was spelled.) Anyway...
And you can find some good pics of the coins here.
And yes, invading Canada from Alaska would be quite possible, but why bother? Canada's already the finacial bitch of the Amerikan Govt. Anything the Americans want Canada to to is done through the threat of economic sanctions. |

DEAR VICTOM OF FUEL BARONS,
Gas prices have sored upward for the past several
months and they don't seem to be leveling off anytime
soon. I suggest a gas boycott to take place the first
weekend of August 2005. The start date of the boycott
will officially be MIDNIGHT August 5 and will end on
MIDNIGHT August 8 2005. The best way for this to work
is to get the message to THE MAJORITY OF people THAT
we can and to do this we need TO WORK TOGETHER.
Forward this email to everyone in your address book,
tell all your friends and family. On August 5-8 of
2005 we are not going to buy any gasoline for four
days. If you have friends in the press/media let them
know about this boycott. Tell them we are sick of
being robbed by the oil barons. Tell the world, that
on August 5-8 of 2005 we are not going to buy fuel.
For an added bonus I suggest everyone call in sick on
Friday the 5th and Monday the 8th and not even drive a
Motor Vehical for the four day boycott. I understand
that this is not likely to happen but it would
definately be the first of its kind and you would have
the satisfaction of knowing you were a part of it.
make t-shirts and buttons AND GIVE THEM AWAY. Lets
make it a national holiday. NO MORE HIGH GAS PRICES
WEEKEND.
The time is now and we ARE THE PEOPLE OF THIS GREAT
NATION, IT IS TIME TO UNITE AND STAND UP FOR OUR
RIGHTS FOR AFFORDIBLE GAS PRICES. Do not hesitate to
click forward and add names in your address book and
click send, it is so easy. Then on August 5-8 of 2005 DO YOUR PART AND
simply make plans to stay at home, take a walk, ride a
bike or any other activity that will assist you in not
driving a motor vehicle.
copy and paste this to every forum board, in everyemail you send. spread the message as fastest you can.
sincerely,
Travis Stutzman |

Hey Stephen, if you want paper money from Australia (note, only one 'i' in Australia) you'll be waiting a looooong time. We've upgraded to plastic. Actually, you Americans would love the original $5 plastic note - had this lovely feature of being able to deface the queen...it's also our smallest note denomination (although for how long is another question). |

The Americans wouldn't want to deface her, though, just draw a dong on her, Smerk.

True. I dread to think what happens when (not-so) bonny Prince Charlie takes over... |

And YES, I'm aware of the actual meaning of deface, but you mean it literally, don't you, now. |

Yes, you could scratch the queen's portrait off the $5 note. |

I was pretty sure that it was Australia that I had seen that news-clip on. When it was on the news over here (Canada), they were making a big deal out of it being a protest against keeping the British monarchy in Australia.
I don't know whether that was a factor or not, you know how crap like that gets distorted. But removing the queen from OUR money would definately be a novelty few would pass up. |

Yeah, there was a malfunction with printing the notes - the $5 were the first to be printed on plastic, and that first print run was dodgy...end result, scratch the note, and the queen's head would come off...
Every so often, some politician trots out the ole monarchy question too. So far, no takers... |

So you're saying for once the Queen of England's existence was about as sure as a French Queen's?
One wave of the finger, and off comes her head!

Stephen, It seems your original question never got answered. I know the REAL reason why gasoline prices have gone up to these levels. It's not the war, it's because.... People are willing to pay that much. Exon and BP and all those gasoline refiners charge as much as people are willing to pay.
Everyone bought SUV's in the late 90s, demand for gas went up, and now they are paying the piper. You'll see gas prices drop a lot over the next ten years as people end their love-affairs with Hummers and Suburbans and start buying high-mileage vehicles and hybrids. |

I say US gas prices are going up because of Bush. Just before the elections, prices go down. After the elections, prices go back up. It's not a coincidence. Rising gas prices are just lining his pockets. |
