I was wanting to get opinions on this subject. Very hard to find a good answer, or I'm just not searching in the right place.

I don't know if it is really true or not, but I would say yes. This is only from observation though - up till recently one of my sad hobbies was watching gas prices. On death-intensive days, the price would go up as the news broke or by the nextmorning at the latest. But, Chicago gas stations are notorious for going up at the slightest provocation. wink

Well, here, they went from $1.79 to $2.00 in just a few days. I know it is worst elsewhere.

War? What do you mean? Our president told us that the war ended two years ago. Don't you believe him?

Okay, one thing I just CAN NOT stand is people who whine about paying half of what I have to pay for gas.

Now that THAT's out of the way...

There is no way in hell that the price of gas should fluctuate in any way, shape, or form because more people got killed one day than the next. That has NOTHING to do with the production or shipping costs of said gasoline.

The US has a fairly large reserve of oil, enough to last a while if all of it's foreign oil inputs suddenly stopped. The only way that gas price should fluctuate is if the external oil input was lessened enough to cause a shortage.

BUT, would that not mean that any store that's running short on something gets to charge more for the little they have left? Why the hell do we accept this from the gas companies? We don't accept it from anyone else.

Oh, I forgot. We are helping "Rebuild" now. I thought, back then, that gas prices would actually drop. I was wrong.

The current price of gas here is....

Drum roll, please.....

89.9 cents.

PER LITRE

4 litres per galon means... 4 times 89.9, which totals out to $3.59.6 per gallon.

Ain't it great?

Whoever thought that the metric system works well was right. Everything in it is base 10.

The problem, though, is that it has to have universal implementation, which it does not. So we have to learn BOTH systems just to understand what the hell is going on.

One thing Rod forgot to mention about Canadian gas prices is that 45% of the cost is tax. In fact some of taxes on gas are taxed too. You Americans think YOU have corrupt government?

???

Just because it's taxed does not make it any cheaper for us...

It's not like we can avoid the tax when we fill up.

Wow, I thought us aussies had bad petrol prices...currently $1.08 per litre with it expected to reach tops of $1.14. I only do metric, so some other maths-whiz can work out what that is per gallon (don't forget the exchange rate too!)

Your math's just a smidgen off, Rod--one gallon of gas at 89.9 cents per liter is really around $3.40 or $3.41. And with the conversion to U.S. dollars, it's about $2.81-3 (depending on where you look up your currency conversions...not sure which is up-to-the-moment). That isn't great, either, but it's not as bad as four dollars per gallon...

I wasn't all that concerened with a dead on answer, but hey, I was pretty close just using 4 and not spending the time digging up the conversion rate for litres to gallons.

Thanks for doing it FOR me. wink

Hey now, Rod! Precision is important in all areas of life! Do you want your heart surgeon to say, "Hmmm, I wonder where the heart is? Oh well, I'll probably be close enough---SLIIIIIIIIIIICE." And then he takes out your liver or something, and you have to sue for malpractice.

NO, I'd prefer that DIDN'T happen.

But then again, I was only talking about gas, not buying it.
Ask a surgeon how big your brain is, and he'll give you a general answer. Ask him how big your heart is and he'll tell you its about as big as your fist.

But when he cuts, he's a tad more accurate.

Precision where it's needed, baby.

That, and I was just feeling lazy and did a quick calculation in my head.

Damn. Is there no such thing as just a plain smiley-face anymore?

Yeah, but ask a guy how big he is and you get some very exact answers. Not truthful, but exact.
