Gone with the Wind (Margaret Mitchell) is fiction, but the author used real bits of history regarding the Civil War.
Trinity (Leon Uris) is fiction, but gives real Irish history.
Just 2 in particular that I've read that are FICTION but have REAL history. It's called historic fiction. Filed with all other adult fiction in your local library. |

I took a long hard look at the "Last Supper" and to my suprise, it does resemble a woman. I asked the G/F, who is a christian (why she is with me I might explain one day) to look at the painting. She wasn't aware of what I was reading, knew nothing about the book. She said it looked like a woman to her. |

The problem with the Di Vinci Code is that Dan Brown claims that all this stuff is historical fact. But anyone with any knowledge of history can see the absurdity in his claim. If he wants to write a fiction book fine, but to claim that it's foundations are established truths, he better be ready to stand up to scrutiny. For example he claims that the Council on Nicea voted to view Jesus as God by a relatively close vote. You judge... Is 316 to 2 a relatively close vote? Not even remotely. And it wasn't a vote to view Jesus as God. The Christians believed Christ to be divine, but another group known as the Gnostics began to rise up and oppose this. The purpose of the Council of Nicea was to put down on paper what Christians all over the world held to be true. This business about the pagan emporer Constantine is also bogus. He blatantly claimed to be Christian. I could go on and on... |

Constatine only stated that to get Christians to listen to him and to get their money....It was better then killing them all.....Anyone with any open minded intellect knows the entire Roman Catholic organization is one big corrupt business from the very beggining....They hid the bible from the common people for centuries until the first printing press came out....And when that happened the people were furious for having been lied to by comparison of what was in the Catholic "MADE" bible.... |

Oh and on the Da Vinci Code..well, I'm atheist, but I still think it's all bollocks. It's just a shameless cash in on modern insecurities - church goers buy it to convince themselves it's trash, atheists buy it to make themselves feel good.
None of this stuff really matters, religion (for those who choose it) is about a personal belief or connection and I don't see any reason to rake this stuff over.
Then again...you have to take your hat off to anyone who can make themselves a small fortune by writing rubbish. Afterall, that's surely a better skill than selling something with a *good* plot .. |

Hi
I just want to comment that i saw the movie.
And of course that i completely understand the position of the Church. I am Catholic and the whole idea of presenting Jesus having a wife is nothing but repulsive, besides completely disrespecful. If someone does not believe i respect that...but one thing is not believing and another thing is trying to confuse others or to make profits with things that for sure are not to play with. But that is what everybody does lately make profits just using in a bad way the Catholicism and JESUS...there you have Madonna on the list and this author for sure. |
