People can't be this stupid. Surely this has to be fake.
"They're America's dumbest criminals," said Lt. Ricky Ramie, head of the Bay County Sheriff's Office narcotics task force. He was referring to a couple who called the police to report that their stash of pot had been stolen.
Police said they were notified by 18-year-old John Douglas Sheetz and 17-year-old Misty Ann Holmes Thursday that their quarter-pound stash of marijuana was stolen from their apartment. They said they needed it back, because they planned to sell it.
When deputies arrived, the couple allowed them to search the apartment. They found several marijuana stems and drug paraphernalia. They then arrested Sheetz and Holmes and charged them with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The couple were being held in the Bay County Jail with bail set at $17,500
It happens all the time. I recall a news story a few years back about LAPD taking over a crack house for a day, and running a sting operation. Made dozens of arrests. After a good day's work, they were cleaning up. Police cars, paddy wagons, and a dozen more more uniformed cops outside the house. They made several more arrests, of people walking up to uniformed cops and asking to buy dope. (On the other hand, this being LAPD, they may have been used to buying their dope from on-duty cops)
Or the guy who walked up to a LAPD black & white, pulled a gun on the cop, and demanded his wallet.
If they weren't stupid, they wouldn't be criminals.
a similar thing happened to me at a party once- some chavs turned up and accused us of stealing their 'skunk' (which prompted fits of drunken giggles), whereupon they became classicaly violent. we called the police, and before we had a chance to show off our lovely new bruises the chavs had run over to them and and told their sorry tale. when the ringleader was arrested the other two made a break for it, and were swiftly rounded up.
Don't know any stories about crims calling the cops to find their drugs. I know of one case last year that a crim had buried $200 K worth of drugs in his back yard (for resale), had it stolen, and managed to claim it as a tax loss! Went through the supreme courts so he could claim it. That would have been an interesting tax return!
Sorry, meant Federal court and the case was decided in September 2002. The drug dealer was convicted, and the Govt was looking to change the laws so that losses and outgoings incurred through the conduct of illegal activities are not deductible. I've yet to find out whether that's been passed or not.
Yeah, I vaguely remember something bout that. It was a bit of a laugh at the time. But I've heard so many stories about people going to the cops about their drugs being stolen that I think it almost has an urban legend feeling to it now.
Smerk, nettie...
What's the employment scene like down there? Jen and I have always talked about wanting to move to the West coast of Australia. It's our dream life...
Ummm, I think I'm the last person to ask about it. I suppose it depends upon the industry you're in. Maybe need to suss out websites like http://www.mycareer.com.au or http://www.seek.com.au. But please, come join us!
Who cares what job you get? This is the best place in the world to live! It's got some of the best weather around, and it is just so beautiful here. I live in the hills east of Perth and every day I think to myself I am so lucky to live here...except maybe a month or so back when I was put on evac alert for a bushfire, but hey, now I'm just splitting hairs!
And it's not like Australia has a high concentration of venomous insects and animals....
But hey, I'd love to go there myself. My mom's going there for holidays this September, and I'm still trying to figure out a way for her to smuggle me over. Nimbin, here I come!
Nettie, I agree. Perth is beautiful. I think North of the River is best...We also have some of the best beaches in the world! So we started out life as a penal (as in criminals, not anything else for those dirty minds out there) colony. So we don't have a rich history of hundreds of years. Who cares! That bush fire was awful. I was coughing for days when all the smoke travelled into the city.
Hmmm...venomous insects and animals...yes, watch out for drop-bears! (Although they are reported to live on the east coast, not the west...)
Nettie, we've lost the topic again!

In California, if you have a prescription for marijuana and someone steals your stash, you call the cops and they will treat it as a theft.
Then you can file a claim with your insurance compamy and they pay off.
