What is this? Is it some kind of disease? Please explain, I can't read through that whole site. I'm so confused! Would you mind putting it in a nutshell for me?
Thanks. |

The only info I can find on mercritis always comes back around that website. Got to be a hoax but it's so boring I can't even bring myself to read the whole thing. |

Hoax! the front page gives it all away. The 'Mecritis riots of 1959' photo is wonderfully under-captioned; what the hell are we looking at? the title is the best though;
"Mecritis online...Lord help you my son"
Bizarre level of effort for something so pointless though. |

Not a hoax. Mercritis is an urban legend you hear about in the South. It's a campfire story that revolves around a riot in 1959 due to an outbreak of a rare disease that causes madness in women. I called my dad who said when he first heard about Mercritis the story was the same but the riot was 1859 not 1959 and as usual there was a huge cover up. Odd thing is if you sift through the forums at the site from the very beginning there must be thousands of posts from men saying they got it and then they make like they all got wiped out by it and the thing is... the posts span years and years. |

So, it IS a hoax. What you're describing sure sounds like a hoax to me. Basically an Urban Legend that isn't true. HOAX.
Thanks for clearing this up.
My question is, WHO CARES?! This is a boring UL and a boring website! I agree with Charybdis, I can't even make it through the site.
Thank you. |

This is real. My grandfather got killed by Mercritis Activated Rage in the 59 riot and by the way, it's basically a disease that makes beautiful women go insane with rage and it's a completely real phenomenon. |

Only "beautiful" women? How does the disease know? |

I think I have a variant strain of this disease except mine doesn't discriminate between women who are beautiful or otherwise. Sure got the "insane with rage" part nailed though. |

"How does the disease know?"
1. The man eats lead based paint chips.
2. If this doesn't kill him, he develops Mercritis.
3. Then he emits a scent.
4. Certain women smell it and react on a harmonal level ("beauty" being somewhat harmonal) in what is called a MAR episode. (Mercritis Activated Rage).
5. If he doesn't live in seclusion, he will probably be murdered by a beautiful woman. |

The world is a park and mercritis but a small sparrow. |

Clearly, it causes the subject to produce some chemical that can be safely secreted through the skin of a male, but that causes women to respond to the "harmonal" (probably hormonal) effects and attack the source of the chemical. What's not to believe? |

So, why are these guys eating lead paint?
Since when is beauty hormonal (or "harmonal" as Hester so astutely put it)?
And, remember, as Aeon Fluxx taught us, "That which does not kill us makes us stranger." |

"So, why are these guys eating lead paint?"
1. A fit of compulsive behavior.
or
2. A need for a moment that can't be taken back.
or
3. A self destruction drive.
or
4. A lack of snacks around the house. |

What would you say other than "tastes good"? "Tastes well"? Or it's just plain tasty? Scrummy? |

...I haven't been able to load the page. ...And Nick, other than commenting that "The food is delicious", "I like the way this tastes", how else, (other than "good") would food taste?
Is it just a British thing that food doesn't taste good? |
