Yes, they're real. There's no particular reason why maps should show the northern hemisphere on top. Just tradition (European tradition).

It's mostly the upside-down thing I thought was weird. I assumed that if I was in Asia & bought a map that it would center the map so that Asia would be more to the middle. ...it's just weird looking I guess.
I agree wholeheartedly. Everyone should just give in and do things the American Way. Then we wouldn't be so confused when we have to go to other countries and help bolster their floundering economies with our tourist dollars or replace their pathetic governments with our much better one.
Dammit, when I want that bohemian with the little feathered hat and cute pantyhose and all that crap to fetch me a drink I want him to understand me the first damn time.

I saw an "Australian" centric map at work and then tried to buy one, couldn't do not even on e-bay. Anyone out there know where I can get one? Thanks
See, by bein' a danged furner you screw everything up with all your fancy acronyms. TV is TV period. Everything else is just a cheap knockoff. Except for Britcoms. Coupling & Red Dwarf & Father Ted are the only reasons we accept our backward brethren the way they are. They're a little screwy (like the family members you keep away from company) but we can usually understand them when they talk. Everyone else needs to change.
Yes, even the Canadians.
Except for Red Green. He fits right in.

Yay for Father Ted!
I've always like american TV shows more than the british ones though (soooo patriotic, huh?), Charmed being my favourite, although My Hero and My Family make me laugh all the time. (I know charmed isnt comedy!)

Hey now... take it easy on the Canadians and their bacon! Between Canadian bacon, Avril Lavigne, and Avril's Canadian bacon they deserve a break... wouldn't you think? Any actual guy would I'm sure!

Artemys, Every school has them. A world map just isn't proper unless Australia & N.Z is in the centre. They are much easier to use for navigation. How many you want? I even got topos.

My Mom, who I regarded as sufficiently educated, surprised me one day with her claim that "All rivers flow South". No matter how I tried, I couldn't seem to convince her that rivers run Downhill, not in a magnetic South direction. She grew up in New Jersey, tho, and that may explain a lot.

What about the Great Divide? (US) Don't the rivers flow South/East on one side & South/West on the other? I mean I understand about rivers flowing downhill...But don't they have to flow INTO the ocean...besides...some places aren't downhil...Never mind...I'm not even sure I understand what I'm talking about...
But Hairy, if North is at the top of the map then South would be downhill. That's why all major rivers flow south(down). Except the Nile. The ancient Egyptians musta stolen their antigravity technology from the Atlanteans.
