About the New Forum

 Well, here's the new look for the forum. It's quite different. In fact, it's no longer really a forum. It's more like a community blog. The main feature that's been added is that members have quite a bit more freedom in what they can post. There are smilies. Members can also upload images (as long as the images aren't too big... thumbnails would be preferable). Entries can also be assigned to categories (I need to go through all the old posts and do that manually). Oh, and soon members should also be able to edit their entries. Well, some members at least (that's going to have to be a privilege a member earns since somebody could wreak serious havoc if they decided to abuse that).

I've been meaning to upgrade the forum for a while, but when I looked around at the options I realized that I couldn't install new forum software without losing all of the existing posts. Since I didn't want to do that, I've decided to import all the existing posts into the software that I use to run my blog. Which is why the forum now looks like a blog. Anyone can add comments, but it's a bit harder for non-members to post topics. That's because the software really isn't designed to allow anyone except a member to post an entry.

The new forum definitely needs more work. But for now, at least, it's up and running (I hope). Comments? Worse/Better than before?

Much better, 'tho you took out the topic preview. Unless that was what was causing the misformating.

I just thank DOG you didn't mess with the Dusty ad.

You might try lengthening the forum list since it stops just after the start of the google ads and you have all this blank space there.

One last observation afforin I go to lunch - the threads are ordered by reverse time of creation, not last post. The recently commented entries only lists the last 7 entries or so - so any more updates will drop off and you'll have to search each thread to find new entries. I know this is like the front page but I liked the forum's reordering by last post better.

I don't understand why putting short previews of the posts is messing everything up. It's some kind of weird software gremlin beyond my comprehension. However, the posts should now be ordered by the most recent comment, just as they were before.

Great. Looks much better except now you've lost you google ads and your right border lists.

The google ads can go. Nobody clicks on them down there anyway. I removed the right-border lists because I think it looks better without them.

Looks good. Of course I could just be making all these suggestions to get my number of posts up. (Assuming that now that this is a blog our posts here will be tracked with the others)

Um, since we're puplishing a new topic instead of posting a new message thread our user names are no longer listed at the end of the initial post, so we don't know who to blame.

I'm working on that as we speak. The problem is that when I imported the posts I got listed as the author of every single one of them, for some reason. Looked a bit egomaniacal. So before I put the author info back up I'm trying to get the correct authors listed. Like I said, things will keep changing over the next day or two.

Wow you have been busy redecorating Alex. Looks good, I like it. Only one gripe the subjects are no longer in order like they were, I know you are still working on it so I won't complain to loudly. tongue laugh

Myst, the subjects should be in the same order as they were before. I've formatted them so that the subject with the newest comments will be at the top. People seem to like that as a way to follow discussions.
