Dead wife as a coffee table

The story of a man who kept his dead wife in a glass coffee table (http://www.geocities.com/mikey_wbt/ugh/dead_wife.html) is already identified as almost certainly a hoax (http://www.snopes.com/horrors/gruesome/lucy.htm) but does anyone have more information about the background of the photograph that appears on the site?

I saw the story on Ripley's Believe It Or Not.
I guess they check things out before they run a story on it.The husband they interviewed looked exactly like the man in the picture!

Yup, I can give you a little background info.

There's two guys sitting on a black couch, drinking crappy beer. The wall is beige, the carpet is grey, and there is also a smaller, unooccupied-by-a-corpse, end table.

Should I go on?

If this is true, I just can't believe it would be legal...

Ripley's does not necessarily check out their stories. In fact when asked about whether all their stories are true, they have said, "We just ask our readers to 'Believe it or not'". That should tell you something.

When I die, please dont dress me in ugly clothes.

My first hint of a hoax, (oddly enough wasnt so much the dead lady in the coffee table) was the way she is dressed. You would think he would have had her in something a little more dressy. Or, since he was going to use her as a coffee table, some sort of sports clothes (I would choose a nice Broncos Short sleeve shirt for the summer months).

Absolutely NOT going to happen in any state! A few years back my Grandfather spent major $$$ and time trying to get permission to bury his father on his VERY large farm. Thinking it was private property and eventually he'd triumph he spent lots on lawyers trying to get it O.K.'d in the time leading up to the "expected." But it never happened. It's no longer legal to bury anyone outside of an official cemetary in any state. The government basically told my grandfather that he didn't "own" the land necessarily so much as he "owned" the exclusive right to rent it from the government. (i.e.-property tax)

MNJ, I'm afraid that what you're talking about isn't the case everywhere. You can get a license for "pasturing" or something, and have a portion of land designated as "family burial". My mom looked into it. It has to be a specific size, to actually hold family members who will pass, and it has to be designated by a gate/fence or something. But, here in Florida, you can bury yourself on your own property if you get the licensing. Essentially, this becomes an "official" cememtary, but it's still your pivately owned property.

I tried to google to find the info she had...but she was somewhere in downtown Tampa and found out about it...it might not be in an internet searchable database.

"...here in Florida, you can bury yourself on your own property if you get the licensing." - Maegan

How would that work, exactly? Do you have to bury yourself alive?

Just screwin with ya...

The story on Ripley's was not this one and has been proved true.

So... Where is his wife? Has she started a new life somewhere, or has he murdered her? Questions that should be asked, if the story is true.

in florida, there is no government regulation in place to forbid someone from being buried on private property. however, the local city or county can have ordinances in place that forbid it. you have to check with your local authorities. also, there is no licensing that you speak of.
