Cellphone Telemarketers?

I have been getting various emails forwarded to me warning me that telemarketers will soon be able to get ahold of my cellphone number and that I should sign a petition (or call my congressman) in protest of this.

It could be real, I supposed, but with the cutthroat competition between cellphone companies and with no word of this coming to me via real news channels, I'm wondering if this is a hoax?

Maybe you could share some of those e-mails so that we can search the www for clues.
