Lord of the Rings Scam

Hi, just heard about this site, thought you might be interested in a scam pulled against LOTR Cast, Crew, and Fans by two women in 2003. They swindled thousands of dollars by creating a phony charity and inviting LOTR celebrities to host "charity fundraisers." These two "ladies" (one of whom was disguised as a man the whole time) managed to land donations and support from people like Sean Astin and Andrew Lesnie, many of the supporting cast, and hundreds of people here in Oregon.

They lived high on the hog for nearly a year, meeting the stars and quietly spending the charity money (with fake expense account to boot). Then I caught one in a lie and the whole house of cards came tumbling down.

The complexity and audacity of their lies upon lies led me to write a book about the whole thing. Have a look, it's a story that you won't see on any extended DVD.
