Everyone remembers where they were when JFK was shot. But who can say, they shot JFK? This new game released allows you to shoot the former President!
I thought this was interesting since we just had a discussion about a WTC game. How does this rank on the "un-american" scale, since it was created in the UK?
I love race, fly and puzzle games. Any game that shoots anything should be banned. That's nothing to teach your children.

Exactly my thoughts, Paul. A radio host asked the question, what if the American's created a game called, "Driving Di"? How would THEY feel? I think this 'eduacational' spin they're trying to throw in is simply disgusting.

That is one of the most ridiculous things i have read on these boards. Any game that shoots anything should be banned? Should alkl films that depicted violence be banned too Paul? How bout songs? Paintings? And why stop at just violence, lets ban any depiction of any of lifes uglier traits. That way they're sure to go away!
You know video games have age limits on them right? A game in which you have to shoot JFK will definately get the 18 cert(i'm not saying that that excuses the idiotic content of the game but at least this way it won't be "teaching" kids anything) And the majority of shooting games will carry a cert between 15-18. It's this kind of knee jerk "let's ban everything" mentality that causes problems in later years, not the video games.

How can one nation take itself so seriously? and compare the late great JFK with some moon face inbred who had an affair and was in a car crash? You guys forget sometimes us english took all of our intolerant, stuck up, no-fun religious fanatics (who banned Christmas because it isn't in the bible)and shipped them over there, and now we have to put up with this kind of crap back as intelligent discussion!

Lately, I have been playing Playboy, The Mansion, on X Box. I have yet to start publishing a nudey mag though. Funny, I love violent video games too, but I still can't bring myself to start shooting people or running them over.
It seems to be a common misconception that violence in games or on TV will beget violence in RL
Oh, there might be a few of low intelligence who think that something they see in fiction might be cool to try - there are always exceptions.
But most of those who indulge in these fantasies know they are fantasies and what's more this is and escape for their adrenadlin and their desire to do violence.
Video game violence and movie violence are outlets and far from increasing the instances of RL violence are more likely to decrease it.

I was just trying to show a correlation. JFK was like American 'royalty'. What's the deal with really old threads being pulled back up again??
hmmmmm....ok, I thought about it. Nope, won't do it.
By the way, children have allways been this violent, it is human nature. Some are just more prone to it. It just gets more media attention now days, and we are hearing about it more and more because of this. We are allways exposed to violence, news, real life, music, video games. Even books. Just because a kid might say that they got the idea to commit a certain crime because of a game or what ever, it had to be in him to commit such an act to begin with. If it wasn't the game, it would have been something else. Billions of people have killed and have been killed because of religious ideas throughout history, are we going to ban religion???? Nope.

Most of the evidence shows just the opposite. Study after study shows a causal link between voilent behavior and childhood viewing patterns. Here's some links for you:
There are, literaly, hundreds of studies that show the same thing. Of course, you never hear it on the local Fox affiliate.
I'm sure you don't have kids, because when you do, you'll spend more time thinking about how to raise them than rebutting guys like Paul and me. I have a kid, and I don't let him watch more than two hours of TV a WEEK, and I damn sure don't let him watch anything violent.
I'll give in; I have a 9 yr. old.
plays games, watches movies; she seems fine. And being a good parent, I encourage her to use her imagination. She has free will when it comes to games and TV, and suprisingly, she doesn't watch that much, and only picks up her game boy once in a while. She just wants her show on while she plays. Also, these studies are still somewhat new, compared only recently since all this wonderful technology has come about in the few last decades. You can't compare these findings to what has been going on for centuries. This is only my opinion, we all have one. I look at it this way, you got some good kids and some bad, it will allways be like that no matter what you put in there face.

Sorry, I don't remember the last time I turned on the news & heard that some kid was burning Atlanta (sort of like when Sherman came through during the Civil War - the account is referenced in multiple books). Kids aren't reading books & getting creepy ideas. Kids are getting ideas put into their heads by their environment. Some kids make a judgement call and say, "Hmm...live grenade into the mini-van? Probably not a good idea!" Other kids aren't so savvy.
There is more media attention now, b/c access is being broken down. Cameras are lighter weight & can be trucked around...home video has proven numerous times that someone IS watching what is going on.
My city just started using Tasers. At least once a week the news has a story about a student being tasered. Why? Student was endangering themselves & others with their actions. Years ago...kids were afraid to do something that was 'wrong', they didn't want to get paddled or deal with the consequences. Now it's more like, how much can I get away with before they make me go to counseling?

I would like to mention though, that while I have never bit or screamed at my daughter...she does try to bite me & will shreik if the object of her desire is taken from her. (I took so long to post that 4 more posts got up b/f I realized it.)
So...kids aren't born angels...but I have also learned what discipline works on a 13 month old baby, so that she curbs that biting and screaming habit.
Look guys if someone wants to play violent video games then f#$#^% let em it not up to u if i play Counter-Strike of foo foo bunny land(if that is a game this was just a councidence) but still i only play violent video games but i dont want to kill any one i use em to vent my frustration so insted of killing someone i kill zombies. Look there is no way violent video games could be banned b/c there too many games that have violence in fact only little kid or educational games dont have violence. There is no escaping it everything nowdays is violent i mean hell there is a war going on right as i am typin this so leave us gamers alone
