ANYONE HEAR THIS ONE BEFORE???

>>
> WARNING TO ALL WOMEN
> This very alarming. Please be careful. This is something that happened to Ryan and me on the
> way back from the island last spring. I didn't think much of it until now. The reason we
> were a little suspicious is we had been riding in a jeep all day with 100 degree temps and we
> stopped at a truck stop for something to drink. When I was leaving a young girl followed me
> out and asked what kind of cologne I was wearing.
> Well, after 7 hours in the car sweating. I don't think you could tell I was or was not wearing any cologne. We just got in the jeep and said no thanks.
>
> So this does happen.
> To all my female friends - It was about 3 weeks ago, I was at the esso station in Burnaby getting gas. It was about 11:30pm.
>
> I was approached by 2 men and 2 women in a car. The man that was driving asked me
> 'What kind of perfume do you wear?' I was a bit confused and I asked him.'Why?' He said
> "We are selling some name brand perfumes at cheap prices.' I said I had no money. He then reached out of the car and handed me paper that was laminated; it had many perfumes on it. I looked quickly at it and gave it back. I said, I have no money. He said it is OK, we take check, cash or credit cards. Then the people in the car began to laugh. I just got in my car and said no thanks.
> Then I received this e-mail yesterday and it sent chills up my spine. Please read this. It is not joke.
>
> Here is the e-mail - I was sent-----
>
> Dear Friends, I know not all of you are women that I am sending this to, but am hoping you will share this with your wives, daughters, mother, sisters, etc. Our world seems to be getting crazier by the day.
>
> Pipes bombs in mailboxes and sickos in parking lots with perfume. Be careful.
>
> I was approached yesterday afternoon around 3:30 PM in the Walmart parking lot at Annacis Island by two males asking what kind of perfume I was wearing. Then they asked if I'd like to sample some fabulous scent they were willing to sell me at a very reasonable rate..
>
> I probably would have agreed had I not received an email some weeks ago warning of a 'Wanna smell this neat perfume?'scam. The men continued to stand between parked cars, I guess to wait for someone else to hit on. I stopped a lady going towards them, pointing at them, and told her about how I was sent an e-mail at work, about someone walking up to you at malls or in parking lots and asking you to SNIFF PERFUME that they are selling at a cheap price.
>
> THIS IS NOT PERFUME...IT IS ETHER!
>
> When you sniff it, you'll pass out. They'll take your wallet, your valuables and heaven knows what else, maybe even kidnap and rape you.
> If it were not for this e-mail, I probably would have sniffed the 'perfume' but thanks to the generosity of an emailing friend, I was spared whatever might have happened to me. I wanted to do the same for you. PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO ALL YOUR WOMEN FRIENDS
>
> AND PLEASE BE ALERT AND BE AWARE. IF YOU ARE A MAN AND RECEIVE THIS, PASS IT
> ON YOUR WOMEN FRIENDS AND TAKE CARE OF THE WOMAN YOU LOVE AND KEEP HER
> SAFE FROM HARM.
> This last note is from a friend of ours living in Langley, and that is pretty close to home: Ladies this happened to me yesterday and I didn't smell the perfume either, thanks to this email.
>
> This is true. Believe me, I know. I was over by Bestbuy in the parking lot at lunch time when I was approached. So either day or night, it does not matter. There were 3 guys together when I was approached. I called the police when I got back to my desk. Like the email says above,
> LET EVERYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS. YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, COWORKERS, who ever.
>
> It helped me.

I hate to be cynical, but it sounds like your typical don't flashyour 'headlights/don't each ketchup at fast food restaurants/don't give back your hotel key cards' internet warning.

The places mentioned are all suburbs of Vancouver, British Columbia. Until very recently, I lived in this area so I know it very well.

Some facts:
There is no Walmart on Annacis Island. It is about a mile away on Lulu Island near the Queensborough Bridge.
It can get hot in SW British Columbia but not 100 degrees.
Ether is a gas. Its hard to see how you could get enough off a scratch-and-sniff card to knock you out.

I think you'd recognize the smell of ether a MILE away. This won't smell ANYTHING like perfume. And just a sniff won't knock you out. You'd really need to inhale it big time.

That is an urban legend....I was hired (Didn't take job) to run a small company that sold that perfume....by the way, it is generic and they lie to you saying that it is the real thing. But Either has a strong sent, and yes you do have to inhale alot to pass out, it doesn't happen just by sniffing it.

You were hired by a perfume company when you can't even spell scent? - that's a HOAX if ever I heard one!

Recently my mother rushed over to my place to warn me about that perfume scam, seems one of her friend's had gotten an email and whoever sent it had changed the location to a local town. I had to tell her it was an internet hoax that I had seen that named several locations just never seen an Australian location.

But still these scams make us all paranoid, today I took my children to McDonald's for lunch. As we sat down a group of people were leaving a nearby table and one of them put 2 apple pies and a chocolate sundae on our tray saying that they didn't want them and the kids might like them. Hmmm I thought, internet paranoia sinking in, wonder what they have done to them. I opened one apple pie for a peek and realised there was a bite taken out of it!!!! YUCK!! Needless to say they all ended up in the bin, come to think of it that's where they were headed anyway. I'm not going to feed my kids someone else's cold pies or melted sundae.

Hey, yeah I've just received that email, the thing is, the locatuions have changed for me, instead of Walmart etc it's Tescos and Shell station in London. However the rest of the email is exactly the same.
How silly indeed...

For the person who thinks ether is a gas..... then you don't know what ether is.

Ether is not a gas. it's a liquid that put on a cloth and breath it in.

But it doesn't matter that it's not a gas... what matters is that this is a false story (as all of you have figured out). Not only would a sniff from a piece of card have no effect at all, even if you had a cloth covering your mouth and nose it wouldn't effect you, as (not only would you do that), but when sniffing perfume you don't take huge breaths adn you don't keep it there for more than a second.

The only way you can be in trouble doing this is taking a second to sniff it, and then being hit over the head very hard with a club... which you are in danger of every other second of the day.

The ether that was usually used as an anesthetic had a very low boiling point (something like 33 C), so on a hot day it would evaporate away very quickly. Not only would having it on a card not be enough of it to knock you out, it would be likely to evaporate away too quickly. Having it in a perfume spray bottle would be more successful, but even by spraying it you'd only really manage to dose a person with enough to make them a little dizzy at most, not to actually cause unconsciousness.

IT IS TRUE!!

I had something similar happen to me today! I was in the parking lot of my local mall, and just before entereing the mall, a woman asked me if I would like to taste any cheese. Luckily, I remembered *this* scam, and recognized the similarities! So I yelled several obscene words at her to attract attention, then kicked-over her stand (would you believe these crooks feel so comfortable they have a stand!!), hit the woman in the stomach (it's a crook so I don't feel I did something wrong here), ran to my car and took off. I even had to hit a few charriots that were left in the road by naive people that were now helping the criminal!!

So you see, I myself came to an inch of being robbed and raped, so I advise you all to take these e-mails more seriously. It *does* happen!!
