Rose Red ABC Movie

ABC aired a 30 minute presention about a mansion called "Rose Red" that was supposedly haunted, it could change shape, many people disappeared, etc. to hype up a movie that Steven King made that was going to air later that month. The movie itself is good, but the "truth" behind the movie is total bull. The mansion never existed.
Here is the link on ABC's site for Rose Red:
http://abc.go.com/primetime/movies/rosered/index.html
On that site, they give the link to "Beaumont University," where you can find the information on this scientist's studies, etc... but none of the other links on that site work. All of the other "divsions" like Chemisty, Music, etc, links all go to the same Rose Red page. The whole site is fake --set up to make the story seem real. Here is the direct link to that site:
http://www.beaumontuniversity.net/index.html
And, finally, here is a link from HistoryLink.org explaining all this:
http://www.historylink.org/_output.cfm?file_id=4001
and how they filmed the movie, what mansion they used, and more.
It's kind of like the "Blair Witch" thing, all though I was a bit surprised, because Steven King doesn't need a hype for people to tune in and watch his movies, but I guess ABC thought it'd be more exciting this way.

Rose Red just finished here in NZ and Kingdom Hospital has started. Both are reasonable, but the thing about Rose Red is that it has a New Zealand connection . . . Actress Melanie Lynskey.
Who coincidentally plays a character on "two and a half men" called Rose. Who seems to haunt Charlie Sheen. |

Yes, truly disappointed in Mr.King, feeling the need to pull the wool over our eyes to boost ratings. Is he losing his edge? And proud of all the rest of you Americans for ignoring the anti-american bait quoted on this site. |

Stephen King has not had creative control over any of his movies since "Maximum Overdrive". In the interview I read (I'm pretty sure it was in an ancient Playboy mag) when he discussed this, he said he preferred it that way, as he was meant to write books, not produce movies.
He freely admitted that MO would have been a better movie without his "help", so he would stay away from movies in the future, and lets the "pros" do it. (Which is how he ended up with "The Lawnmower Man".) |

I read the same thing. I think He likes hearing that people prefer to read his books then to watch the movies. |

Tamati:
People with the name Tamati should be granted the same consideration as a 15 year old behind the counter at Starbucks giving political
advice. Shut up and pour!

See above. - WTF!!!
Is someone with the user name "WTF!!!" more mature than the rest of us? Is one exclamation mark not enough for you?
And the term is "get go". "Git go" is one of those dialect things that seems to perturb you so.

Wow, I didn't realize it was okay to post in a hoax forum about how bad everyone's use of grammar is.
First off, calm down. Second, do you have any comments about the initial thread post? Third, if no, GET OVER YOURSELF. |

I always thought Rose Red Exist. That Ellen Rimbauer did as well as her Diary. One day, I wake upa morning and I went on Google to search more about it and Unfortunatlly, people were saying that it was NOT REAL and I found this:
------------------
A few years ago Steven Spielberg asked Stephen King to write a scary, haunted house story he could film. As you guessed, King decided to start with the real story of the Winchester Mansion and elaborate on it. The production company went to great lengths to give the film a "true story" feeling by also publishing a companion book on the subject - "The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red" by Joyce Reardon (It was actually written by King. Reardon is a character in the film) - and by creating a fake website for "Beaumont University" the college were the investigators checking out the house supposedly came from.
The Winchester House is a real place located in San Jose, California. It was owned by the rich widow of the man that invented the famed Winchester rifle, Sarah L. Winchester. She feared the spirits of those that had been killed by her husband's guns during the Civil War would haunt her. A psychic told her to appease the spirits she should continually build and add to her mansion and that's just what she did for 38 years from 1884 to 1922. The result is a big, rambling structure with lots of strange features including doors that open out into thin air and stairs the go no place but straight up into the ceiling.
All work stopped when Sarah died in 1922, but the mansion still exists and visitors can take a tour of the premises to see some of the 160 strange rooms and odd features that she had built. Supposedly the mansion is haunted.
--------------------
What can I say. There is still a little voice inside me that wants to believe that there is a Rose Red and I know that I am not the only one, that those who know that it was based on a NON True story still wants it to be true.
"The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer", My Life at Rose Red can always be:
"The Diary of Sarah Winchester", My life at Winchester House.
Stephen King says that he got the idea from the Winchester ( Winchester rifles .....the wife thought if she continued to build the house she would never die).
There are numerous accounts of paranormal activity occurring in the house. These include ghosts, organ music playing, book pages turning and many others.
Stephen King did a great Job. He gave a life to Rose Red, a life to Ellen Rimbauer, a life to something that did not exist. But, the best work he did is of course, Disappointing his readers.
*Sighs*
One Rose to Rose Red @-)--

I'm beginning to wonder if there's ever been a forum without a bitch fight at some point...can't people just discuss a subject without having to resort to fighting?
As to the whole Rose Red story, I've just finished reading the diary of Ellen Rimbauer and that diary really did have me...until I went looking for more information on the internet and found out it was a hoax :( Oh well...I hope to visit the Winchester Castle one day... |

I do believe the whole point of making everyone think it was real, was this. This right here. People to talk and converse about the movie prompting others to go and see for themselves. Therefore more people surry on down to buy or rent the DVD. More money for the money hungry in Hollywierd.
The more people talk, argue, and complain about what is and is not real about the movie, the more others wish to see it.
So you see no jokes, no hoax, no secret plan to seek out just the one simple truth: MONEY
Get enough people interested in something and theres going to be someone that figures out how to cash in on it.
It seems everything in this world today centers on money, don't you think? Scarey how simple and obvious things can be sometimes. |

I myself think that it is always good to keep an open mind about all things also adding Mr King has always done that for people. he makes you question things even if you wont admit it to your self he's great and so is all of his work !!!! |
