The term Reality TV refers, broadly speaking, to any TV show in which people are placed in front of a camera and their honest, unscripted reactions to events are recorded.

However, many times the events that viewers see are not unscripted. In fact, they are often elaborately staged. But for the sake of drama, producers of such shows nevertheless attempt to maintain the illusion that all is unscripted.
