The Jackalope

The Jackalope

No, it's not the Easter Bunny. It's the Jackalope.

This rare creature is most commonly found on the plains of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Postcards available at the park describe it as a "nearly extinct antlered species of rabbit." The Jackalope is known for its ability to mimic human sounds.

Although now most common in America, the Jackalope probably originated in Central Europe. Scholars have deduced this from the existence of a series of old German prints from 1794 which clearly depict the animal. Jackalopes have also been sighted in Scotland and Canada.
